I was very nervous after last year about going away but recently when going on Holiday I was able to order with BOC/Vitalair my concentrator and also Liquid Oxygen which enabled me to get out and about and enjoy by time in Bude. By filling in all the details on the HOOF form, I made it easier for my Doctor to send off to ensure that i had a good week away. I was phoned up by the company to check the details and they had been in contact with where we were staying and arranged to leave the Concentrator, Back up cylinders and Liquid Oxygen Dewer at the site on the Friday and that the housekeeping people moved them to the apartment on the Saturday. We were phoned on the Friday to let us know that everything was in place.

So a stress free holiday that I was able to enjoy and to get out and about. I have since had a week away in Hampshire and Allied Respiratory delivered Liquid Oxygen and the Concentrator a week before I arrived. I then  had another Break in the Lake District in July and Air Products handled the Oxygen for that break. Air Products delivered and Collected at the start and finish of my Holiday. The one glitch I did have was with Allied Respiratory in September who even with plenty of Notice could not deliver the Liquid Oxygen in time. As an emergency one of their staff did a round trip delivering 8 luxfer cylinders which i could not carry. Luckily by using those in the Car and then the remainder of my Liquid Oxygen I left home with I was able to enjoy a day out before the LOX arrived. The truth is that there are too few Patients using Liquid Oxygen and so as a result the service is limited.

I have been contacted by someone who uses Liquid Oxygen who has said that Allied would not supply Oxygen for just a few days. This is all part of the arbitrary rules that companies will employ to not give a service.

So far so good however they don't always deliver or collect on the Days you arrive. This all depends on which driver is in the area on what day.

The ability for spontaneous breaks of a few days away is quite difficult as these company's need notice. In effect they provide a service if you can organise it up front but as often by our conditions we have good and bad spells of fitness we tend to want to strike whilst the bugs are out of sight. This is still something that needs addressing. Also if you are renting a cottage for a break it can be awkward if deliveries are made early. Please discuss when booking with the Holiday provider.

If you want to walk with Oxygen then Liquid Oxygen is your real chance. In fact the more people that have Liquid Oxygen then the better the overall service that can be provided.

Points to note on the HOOF Form.

  • If you are a Liquid Oxygen user add that information to the form and say that you are going to be out for a long time each day.
  • Yet again tick the lightweight box if you want to be able to walk with oxygen.
  • Ensure that the Site/Hotel are aware of your needs. The Oxygen may get delivered a few days early and so most places will get housekeeping to move to your apartment/room on your arrival day.
  • Ensure that on the HOOF form the booking reference name is included if another member of your party has booked the holiday.

When I went to Holland my Oxygen did not cost me anything as I faxed my E111 form to the suppliers over there. Some useful other contacts when organising Holiday Oxygen are:-

Last Year 2006 I was very apprehensive about Holidaying with Oxygen but this year has been better. However the impromptu break is still very difficult. Though Air Products reckon they could do a short notice break. It will only be when enough people are on Liquid Oxygen that more drivers are employed that a better Holiday service will happen. Also one of my colleagues on the campaign has been looking into getting Liquid Oxygen Dewers supplied to various places where you can just fill up.
