Walking with Oxygen Campaign - Living life with Oxygen
|
Whilst Oxygen services have always been delivered privately, the changes to the service resulted in control passing to the Private company and away from the Patient. Proposals for Healthcare for London whilst at first glance would appear to have some Logic and common sense are a recipe for more privatisation. The 'Polyclinics' with up to 25 GP's operating in them could only be created by private operators such as the US Private Healthcare companies who would operate with cheaper labour to ensure that they could make good Margins. The impersonal Nature of the service would affect many like myself whose condition requires some degree of continuity of care. The main point of my discussions with the select committee members and also with Linda Riordan and in letters to other MP's and representatives was that control effectively passes to the private company and so you go from dealing with Healthcare Professionals to yet another Call Centre. Under the old system the Doctor prescribed what you needed. Under the new system the Doctor makes a HOOF request based on your needs. However what you get is decided by the Supplier. So although they may have some modern equipment what you get is dependant upon what they have available. So the Patient has no control. At Westminster we can see that amongst Labour there is a lot of concern about the way the NHS is going, but amongst the Tories we see mixed messages about Private involvement. So the need will be to get involved in writing to MP's and supporting Unison and other campaigns. The NHS Support federation is another body campaigning for the NHS and our campaign is featured there. Also what is the true cost?? Take a look at this article from Pulse. So who is your MP? Contact details are here Parliament Home Page | Houses of Parliament To find your MP, Please write to them and let them know your issues. We have seen that a fantastic amount of money has gone into the NHS since 1997, however much of it appears to be going straight out again to Big Business via PFI contracts. At the recent Labour Party conference, many meetings about the future of the NHS were sponsored by firms such as Boots, BUPA and others who would benefit from the destruction of the NHS.
