Today we hear of the Church in decline but in some areas it is growing. The troubled continent of Africa has seen a great increase in the strength of Christianity and in London we can see thriving Churches in many places. The challenge for Christians of all backgrounds is to not only keep their Churches going but to also bring growth. In our Church we have had one Minister from The USA Joe Gouverneur followed by our current minister Alan Spence who hails from Zimbabwe via South Africa (and one could say Galatia!!). They both came from places where the Christian faith is strong. However in London we see many other things grabbing peoples lives. The Soul in Ealing initiative which has come from the Soul in the City has led to a Debt Counselling service which is in the process of being set up. As Debt is one pressure of modern life then this is a practical example of how the Church can reach out to people. What is the Christians job on this earth. If we feel that God has something for us then we should share that with others. We live in a Consumer society where the desire for more leaves people with an instant fix which passes quite quickly. The pressures of work can be seen as something that takes us in circles at times. How can you retain your sanity and have a career. A Christian will feel a better purpose in life that leads to a greater balance. We wait for our holiday only to get caught up in Air disputes, Half built hotels and traffic Jams. But take a holiday every week from your busy life by coming to Ealing Green to join us for Worship. Image and the body beautiful is thrown at us by the media. We need our bodies to confirm to unrealistic ideals when part of the wonder of the world is in different smiles, expressions and shapes. But what are we like inside. If you spend time working out in the Gym you may get fitter but spare a thought for your spiritual self. Our Church Leadership encourages freedom and we are not bound by rules. Paul in his teaching emphasised the freedom that Faith allows us. So in effect come on a voyage of discovery of your spiritual self and enjoy the company of a congregation that comes from many places but have a home in Ealing with Jesus. The minister plus all the others on the circuit who frequent Ealing Green bring with them different ideas, experiences and viewpoints that can be enriching. For many the Circuit as such is perhaps the thing that differentiates us from other Churches. But we feel a strong sense of Unity with other Churches in the Area and at Easter on Good Friday all Ealing's Churches join together for a united service in the Town Centre. You are most welcome and after our morning services we have Tea, Coffee and sometimes biscuits around the back. |
